Why Choose Canine Consultants?

You’re likely here because the list of behavioral problems on our home page hit way too close to home. If that’s true, you’re in the right place.

At Canine Consultants, we have extensive experience working with dogs who have extreme behavioral problems.

We have:

  • Rehabilitated “dangerous” dogs.

  • Solved extreme resource guarding cases that involved injury to owners, other people, or animals.

  • Helped dog-reactive dogs become comfortable with other dogs again.

  • Helped fearful and shutdown dogs learn to trust again.

  • Many more common, complex, and extreme behavior cases.

Most importantly, though, we have given owners peace of mind, a feeling of safety, and renewed confidence not only in their dog, but in themselves. Our goal isn’t just to “fix” your dog, but to empower you, so that you’re the one helping your dog. In the process, not only do you form a stronger bond with your dog, but you learn how to problem solve, enabling you to rely less on trainers, and more on your own abilities. Our goal is to train you so thoroughly that by the time you’re done working with us, you’ll never need to call us for help with a behavior problem again. We know; that sounds like a terrible business plan. We’re not worried, though, because we’re confident that you’ll be so happy with our results that you’ll recommend us to anyone you know who needs our help. Contact us to discuss your needs.

In addition to complex behavior cases, Canine Consultants offers basic and advanced obedience training to select clients. We have a soft spot for dogs with disabilities, and not many trainers have experience with those unique pups. Not only do we feel your dog already has enough challenges to deal with, but so do you. We would love to work with you. We also love a challenge, so if your dog’s disability is not one that we have experience working with, we’re eager to learn, and are confident that we will be as effective at teaching them as any other dog we’ve worked with. Contact us to discuss your needs today.

Canine Consultants also offers a wide variety of classes. While these classes are mostly designed for large groups, some of our classes would be very beneficial for the owner of a behaviorally challenging dog. For example, our Behavior & Body Language class will set you and your dog up for success by enabling you to identify trigger points well before your dog passes their reactive threshold, allowing you and them to stay calm and continue to work on their issue. Are you thinking of becoming a foster for a rescue? Our Foster Preparation class will set up for success. Rescue dogs can come with a lot of baggage, and knowing how to adjust your home and lifestyle, and learning some basic dog training will give you the tools you need to help them become the best dog they can be. Our Services

First Image: Poppy, under-socialized and inexperienced, trying to play in a very inappropriate way.

Second Image: After working with Poppy on self-control, and enlisting Annie to teach appropriate social etiquette, Poppy now thrives in social groups.

Ben, a pit bull mix, was struggling with resource guarding, causing his owners to consider surrendering him. Canine Consultants worked with his family, in cooperation with the city’s Animal Control Officer, over several sessions to address his issue. Ben is now still with his family and doing much better.

Ivy, a deaf American Bulldog, is spot-on with her obedience work; better even, than most hearing dogs.
