Instruction & Mentorship

I was fortunate to meet Bill while volunteering at an animal shelter and he quickly became a mentor to me, particularly when it came to managing “difficult” dogs. I put difficult in quotes because where some saw a problem, Bill saw an opportunity to help a dog who truly needed it. Bill taught me how to identify the root cause of dog behavior and how to work with each dog as a unique individual. Bill’s ability to connect with dogs who might be fearful, shut down, or suffering from the after effects of abuse is truly remarkable.

One of the most gratifying experiences in my decade plus of volunteering with dogs was winning over a dog whose fear presented as aggression. Bill showed me how to gain her trust and guided me each step of the way. With Bill’s interventions, a dog who was originally unable to be handed at all blossomed into a loving, affectionate, joyful pup. This is where Bill’s heart is, and he dedicates himself fully helping dogs like this. Bill puts the same energy and passion into mentorship as well. He is incredibly generous with his time and he shares his knowledge and experience freely. I learned so much from Bill and it’s been nothing short of a privilege to work with him.

“I met Bill through my time at Quincy Animal Shelter. In my search for the right volunteering opportunity, it was important to me to work with a shelter where the safety and well-being of the animals truly came first. From the first day of training with Bill, it was clear that this work was more than a responsibility for him — it’s his purpose. Over time, he quickly became both a mentor and a friend.

Bill gives everything he has to bettering a dog’s life. He consistently takes on some of the most challenging behavioral cases, including dogs that may not have been given a second chance if he hadn’t stepped in and pulled them from euthanasia lists at other shelters. His ability to read, understand, and communicate with dogs is truly unmatched, and it shows in the way they gravitate toward him.

I would recommend Bill as a dog trainer to anyone who wants to set their dog up for long-term success. His dedication to his craft is admirable and unmatched.”

“Working with Bill completely changed the way I understand dogs and their behavior. His approach is deeply hands-on, thoughtful, and rooted in respect for each individual dog.

What sets Bill apart is how invested he is in both the dog and the person. He takes the time to explain what’s happening, why it’s happening, and how to respond in a way that actually builds trust and confidence. He doesn’t just tell you what to do — he teaches you how to read dogs and work with them in real time.

Because of Bill’s guidance, I gained skills and confidence that I truly don’t think I would have developed otherwise. His knowledge of dog behavior, patience, and ability to meet dogs where they are makes him an exceptional trainer. Anyone who works with Bill is not just getting training — they’re getting a deeper understanding of their dog and a stronger relationship because of it.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Bill to anyone looking for a trainer who is compassionate, experienced, and genuinely committed to helping dogs and their people succeed.”
